Getting Ready for the 23-24 school year!

There's going to be a time when I can share my story with everyone and not have to introduce myself. There will be a time when I am a part of the community and share in our experience together. For now, I am Erik Cohen. I am your principal, and while it took me nearly 20 years in education to find you, I am glad I did and I'm ready to welcome everyone into my life.

I moved around a lot as a kid. Yet, we stayed within a 10 mile radius of LA throughout my childhood. I've lived in places for such a short amount of time that I don't either remember or consider some of them as "home." When people ask where I'm from, I say LA. When they want clarification, because LA is massive, I rattle off a few neighborhoods from Santa Monica to the Valley. My adult life was no different. I've lived and worked in many states, with the military taking me to different places as well. When my family and I moved to Denver 10 years ago, we quickly realized this would be where we settled down. At the time, we had a 2 year old and about 500 dollars to our name. It's hard to believe we even made it 10 days. As I looked for a principalship last Winter, I couldn't help but view this search as something similar: I wanted a home. I sought a school with potential and opportunity, in a great community, with great kids. I found it here at Harmony Ridge! While I have been here observing since May, I've spent the past week in the building getting ready for the upcoming school year and I can't think of another time I was this excited for a school year to begin. I just wanted to touch base with our families in the hopes you are as eager as I am to get our kids back in school; more importantly, back into a school you trust and believe in. We have an amazing staff returning, and some new to Harmony Ridge next year. I look forward to seeing all the new and returning faces. You can expect more communication from me as we get closer to our Back to School Night on August 3. In addition to a celebration of our community, this will be a night to learn about your student's classroom teacher, what their day will look like, the vision for the school and some logistics concerning our systems and structures. Until then, enjoy the last few weeks of summer; and, as always, don't hesitate to reach out about anything.

Llegará un momento en que pueda compartir mi historia con todos y no tener que presentarme. Llegará un momento en que seré parte de la comunidad y compartiré nuestra experiencia juntos. Por ahora, soy Erik Cohen. Soy su director, y aunque me tomó casi 20 años en educación para lograrlo, me alegro de haberlo hecho y me alegra empezar esta etapa de mi vida.

Me mudé mucho cuando era niño. Sin embargo, nos quedamos en ciudades cerca de Los Ángeles durante mi infancia. Viví en lugares por tan poco tiempo que no recuerdo ni considero algunos de ellos como "hogar". Cuando la gente me pregunta de dónde soy, digo Los Angeles. Cuando quieren una aclaración, porque Los Ángeles es enorme, menciono algunos vecindarios desde Santa Mónica hasta el Valle. Mi vida adulta no fue diferente. He vivido y trabajado en muchos estados, y la militar también me ha llevado a diferentes lugares. Cuando mi familia y yo nos mudamos a Denver hace 10 años, rápidamente nos dimos cuenta de que allí sería donde nos estableceríamos. En ese momento, teníamos un niño de 2 años y unos 500 dólares a nuestro nombre. Es difícil creer que lo hicimos en 10 días. Mientras buscaba una dirección el invierno pasado, no pude evitar ver esta búsqueda como algo similar: quería un hogar. Busqué una escuela con potencial y oportunidad, en una gran comunidad, con grandes niños. ¡Lo encontré aquí en Harmony Ridge! Pasé la última semana en el edificio preparándome para el próximo año escolar y no puedo pensar en otro momento en el que haya estado tan emocionado por el comienzo del año escolar. Solo quería comunicarme con nuestras familias con la esperanza de que estén tan ansiosos como yo de que nuestros hijos regresen a la escuela; lo que es más importante, volver a una escuela en la que confía y en la que cree. Tenemos un personal increíble que regresa y algunos nuevos en Harmony Ridge el próximo año. Espero ver todas las caras nuevas y recurrentes. Puede esperar más comunicación de mi parte a medida que nos acercamos a nuestra Noche de Regreso a la Escuela el 3 de agosto. Además de una celebración de nuestra comunidad, esta será una noche para aprender sobre el maestro de clase de su estudiante, cómo será su día, la visión de la escuela y algo de logística con respecto a nuestros sistemas y estructuras.
